End of Session Trip: Philadelphia International Flower Show

On March 11, we took an end of session celebration trip to the Philadelphia International Flower Show. This was an awesome opportunity to check out an amazing event in our community and learn about horticulture.

We visited the Reading Terminal Market before the show.

Pennies for Patients

During the month of March, we organized the "Pennies for Patients" Penny Drive, a competition between all homerooms at Young Scholars Charter School to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

We knew that all of the money we raised would go towards helping people who have cancer. We set up boxes and signs to encourage students in our community to donate.

As a school we raised over $833
The Class winner was RUTGERS!
Thank you and Congratulations!

Service Trip: New Visions Shelter

On February 26, Young Leaders traveled to New Visions Homeless Day Shelter to serve breakfast to a community of people in Camden, NJ. Here are some pictures from the trip.

My Dream Nonprofit

My Dream Nonprofit Organization: P.A.T.H. Center for Education
By: Dominic Bass

I would like to create a nonprofit organization to help young people. Our Goal would be for more middle school and high school students to not drop out of high school. I would like more students to succeed by going to a good college and mastering every subject.

We would start by sending out flyers in our neighborhood and create a blot. Also, we would convince people by setting up stations for people who need help. We would have computers at every location for students to use.

My Dream Nonprofit: Ready to Read
by Teylor Ellerbe

My goal is to donate books to little kids. I would to have a place where little kids can get read to. They could relax and listen to their favorite books and watch a movie every once in awhile. I would talk to you people at playgrounds and get them interested in becoming readers.

Phenomenal Young Ladies Presentation

On February 10, Massa Nuni, who runs a nonprofit organization called Phenomenal Young Ladies, Inc., came to Young Scholars Charter School to speak to Young Leaders. She talked about the great work that Phenomenal Young Ladies is doing to help young women in the city of Chester, PA. We were able to ask a lot of great questions about starting a nonprofit organization to help other people. She helped us design out own nonprofit organizations that are posted on this blog.

Phenomenal Young Ladies, Inc. Objective: To build positive self-esteem and character in its adolescent members through engaging in informative workshops and community service projects.
